Curtain Descending On The Patriots Hopes

In a normal year, last season’s Patriots-Steelers game might offer some clues to Sunday’s matchup. But this is not a normal year, and that was not a normal game.
The biggest question about Pittsburgh’s offense is a familiar one. Willie Parker, who has missed five of the last eight games, practiced Friday but remained questionable. If the New England linemen Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork can slow Parker or his capable backup, Mewelde Moore, they may force Ben Roethlisberger into mistakes. If they can’t, the Patriots may be in trouble.
With a one-game lead in its division, Pittsburgh does not need a victory as urgently as the Patriots do. New England would be out of the playoffs if they started today, and the Patriots still face two games on the West Coast and a visit from N.F.C.-West leading Arizona.
