Curtain gets taste of Derby venue

Curtain Call came through a racecourse spin at Epsom ahead of his participation in the Vodafone Derby on Saturday week.
With Casual Conquest set to be added to the field for the blue riband, Curtain Call is likely to be sent off second favourite and he was the centre of attraction at the course’s Breakfast With The Stars on Thursday.
He took to the downs under Jamie Spencer and worked alongside stablemate Ladies Best once the fog had finally lifted.
Luca Cumani’s colt finished upsides his work partner and his trainer, who is bidding for his third Derby, was pleased with his performance,
“It will have done the horse the world of good,” said Cumani.
“I couldn’t really see much of it but Jamie said he handled the track very well and gave him a good feel.”
Spencer added: “All we did was canter for five and a half furlongs and then quickened up for the last two.
“That is just what the horse wanted. He’s a very neat horse, well-balanced and nothing seems to faze him, which gives you plenty of confidence. He’s one you look forward to riding.”
A winner of the Beresford Stakes when trained by Jessica Harrington, Curtain Call won at Nottingham on his seasonal bow but missed the Lingfield Derby Trial when the ground was too quick.
