Ikea pioneered the BoKlok concept homes in Scandinavia, which some commentators believe could help resolve the UKs affordable housing crisis.

The British firm Live Smart @ Home has the exclusive rights to build the homes in this country.

A two-bedroom show apartment - decked out in Ikea furniture - was opened for viewing by the media.

The first six of 93 units are nearly completed.

Prices start at %26pound;99,950 for a one-bedroom flat, and rise to %26pound;124,950 for a two-bedroom apartment.

Houses start at %26pound;132,500 for two beds, and %26pound;149,995 buys a three-bedroom home.

They will be sold on a rented, outright sale or shared-ownership basis.

It is thought the first residents could move in by March. Those who move into a BoKlok property will receive a %26pound;250 voucher from Ikea.
