Invicta Building Services has come a long way since it was last featured in these pages back in May 2006
Earlier this year, Invicta won the prestigious H%26amp;V Domestic Heating Contractor of the Year at the industrys awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The prize was presented by the evenings host, comedian Patrick Kielty.
Judges described Invicta as a benchmark company with a clear vision of every aspect of its business. They were impressed with its high level of training for apprentices and non-technical staff, along with its extensive use of modern technology which they used to its absolute maximum. Understandably, the company was proud to have been chosen as the winner.
The company was only established in July 2003, but it has grown in stature over that time, and it now has an enviable reputation for its commitment to effective partnering, particularly in the social housing sector.
The companys philosophy underpins the way the whole team works, explained Alan Tyrrell, Invictas business development manager. The ethos ensures that everyone works together to forge relationships that have real impact on the quality of their work, he said. Our focus is always on the client and the end user. We aim to work in harmony with everyone involved in the project and to communicate at all stages.
Invictas main business is refurbishing, central heating, kitchens and bathrooms, all to bring social housing in line with the Decent Homes standard. The company also carries out Solar Heating installations. Two recent installations of this type were carried out for Lewisham Borough Council. The borough has a target of 10 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and these particular houses have been completely refurbished to have a zero carbon rating as part of the borough mayors Pilot Generation Homes Project. A proportion of the work in progress is for the London Borough of
Croydon, which involves sustainable energy via a biomass boiler in one of four care homes. The other three will be using combined heat and power, solar and wind power.
Experienced resident liaison officers explain to residents what they can expect to happen when Invicta works in their homes. Every resident is provided with a comprehensive information pack, including a residents charter, and special provision is made for residents with special needs. The work is carried out with minimum disruption and when the job is completed, all the residents are invited to complete a customer satisfaction survey so that performance can be monitored and opportunities identified to enhance service delivery.
Invicta are involved in carrying out some large commercial and industrial installations. One of these partnering projects is with Hackney Homes. This is a three-year partnering project working in conjunction with Lovell, which involves the renewing of the existing underground heating mains as part of phase one.
We may be a young business, but between them our employees have clocked up over 500 years of experience, Tyrrell added. We have proved that maintaining a high quality of workmanship, giving excellent service, communicating at all levels and keeping abreast of modern technologies and legislation are paramount to our success.
Its not all work, however.
With a football crazy staff, the company considers there is no better way to support the local community than to sponsor and coach a team of under 13s. Invictas office in the Kent countryside is only a few minutes away from the town of Tonbridge. The Tonbridge Angels football club has enjoyed successes as under 12 champions and League Shield Finalists in the same league. Between them, Invictas managers and directors coach the team, provide team strips, and generally support and encourage the youngsters.
Further to this, it also supports a childrens hospice Demelza House Childrens Hospice. At the companys annual golf day held at Dale Hill Golf and Country Club during June, the company held a raffle and charity auction to raise the sum of %26pound;7,060. The cheque was duly presented to the charity community fundraising manager Donna Wells by Invicta Building Services director Mary Pass.
Invictas projected turnover for 2007 is %26pound;6.5 million, which is not bad going considering the short time since the company was established.
