Southwark tenants win award

Haddonhall Residents Management Organisation was one of only three in the country to receive an award at the House of Commons this month.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Ian Wright MP presented the residents with a %26lsquo;Kite Mark from the National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations (NFTMO) in recognition of the work the residents%26#39; organisation has done in partnership with the council to manage the estate since 1982.

TMOs like Haddonhall are made up of council or housing association tenants and leaseholders, who collectively take responsibility for managing the area where they live.

There are currently 14 TMOs in Southwark, providing housing services for over 3,500 tenants and leaseholders.

The council provides %26pound;5.5million in funding every year to these residents to enable them to manage their estates effectively.

Councillor Kim Humphreys, deputy leader and executive member for housing management said: %26quot;Southwark Council supports tenant management as part of its commitment to improving services and building strong communities.

%26quot;Tenant management is streets ahead as it puts local people at the heart of decision making, and it is great that the NFTMO has recognised that Haddonhall is run in a way that others should aspire to.%26quot;
