%26lsquo;Gender on the Agenda is aimed at managers and human resources staff working in the sector. It provides information and guidance on recruitment and staff retention, and how this can be made more accessible to women to create a more diverse workforce.
Ensuring diversity in your workforce is vital to success, said Andrea Butler, area business manager. Diversity isnt a campaign, an initiative or a set of boxes to tick, its the way to attract the largest possible number of potential staff or customers. A business that encourages a diverse culture attracts people and helps the organisation perform at its best.
Construction remains a male-dominated industry, with women making up only 10 per cent of the workforce, according to the sectors skill council ConstructionSkills. Furthermore, a lack of %26lsquo;family friendly working hours has spurred qualified women from leaving the industry.
Stonhams efforts to redress the gender imbalance was funded by Equal, a European Social Fund initiative which tests and promotes new methods of combating inequalities and discrimination in the labour market. Stonham provides specialist housing, care and support across the country, managing 545 projects that help around 15,000 vulnerable and socially excluded people. The CD was developed by its staff.
