Over the past 10 years over 300 voluntary and community sector organisations across Tynedale have benefited from %26pound;1.5 million in Grant Aid funding.

It is hoped that the new authority will build upon the success and achievements of Grant Aid, supporting more groups across the district for years to come.

Through the initiative, the council offers grants to organisations to help them maintain and develop their own facilities, services and activities, complementing funding from other sources.

Last year, the council awarded %26pound;277,425 to projects including 81 Club for Disabled, ADAPT, Arts Council England North East, Headway Theatre and Hexham Spinal Unit Sports Club.

Although Grant Aid is practiced by councils across the country, Tynedale runs the initiative as part of its core budget.

Susi Goncu community development officer at Tynedale Council said: Through Grant Aid we have been able to assist a variety of individuals and groups district wide to launch new projects, sustain existing ones and create facilities and activities that benefit the local community.

Groups, voluntary and non profit making organisations are encouraged to contact the Regeneration and Communities Department for a Grant Aid Application and Grant Application for recreational and open space projects.

All applications must be received no later than 29th Feb 2008, with all projects completed and the money claimed by December 2008.
