Fitzgibbon ready for 2008 curtain call

Sydney Roosters skipper Craig Fitzgibbon says the 2008 NRL season could be his last.
Fitzgibbon is off contract at the Roosters and the 30-year-old admits he will need to make a decision in the coming months whether he will continue playing into a 12th NRL season.
“I’m not sure that I am up for another season,” said Fitzgibbon.
“It’s sort of scary because I don’t know. I honestly couldn’t tell you. I don’t know how I will feel after half a dozen or a dozen games so it’s certainly all up in the air at the moment.
“I will just have to wait and see how we go this year.
“Hopefully some good footy will help me make my decision.”
In recent times Fitzgibbon has battled ongoing ankle complaints, but still only missed one NRL game last season.
The former Test and NSW back-rower says the mind is willing, it’s just whether the body is able to meet the rigours of professional football.
“It will most likely be a physical decision on whether I can maintain my body keeping up with my head so to speak,” he said.
“It does get hard. Some people with injuries are lucky and others aren’t. Some can handle sustained pressure. I’ve been doing it for a while now and if I break down I break down. If I don’t I will go on.
“I’m a year by year proposition and probably most players are when they get to my age.”
Fitzgibbon wouldn’t rule out ending his career with a season in the English Super League, but ideally would love to have his final curtain call in Roosters colours.
“I’d certainly like to finish up with the Roosters. I’ve been here a long time and love the place and can’t see myself going anywhere.”
