Budget Crunch Brings Down The Curtain

The company that stages musicals at the outdoor Iroquois Amphitheater will move this summer to the Kentucky Center.
The relocation of shows produced by Broadway at Iroquois formerly Music Theatre Louisville is not due to weather concerns. The decision is the result of an economic storm that has forced the arts organization and the city to cut expenses.
The move from the historic amphitheater in south Louisville to the center’s Bomhard Theater downtown was a decision that was not made lightly, said Peter Holloway, producing artistic director of the arts group.
The theater company, which merged with Stage One of Louisville, enjoyed performing at the amphitheater, he said. But a recent proposal by Metro Parks for the arts group to manage the facility and pay for utilities in lieu of paying rent is not a financial risk the organization can afford to take, Holloway said.
