Call breezes on Epsom downs

Curtain Call, bidding to give trainer Luca Cumani a third Vodafone Derby victory, had a first look at Epsom with a spin as the feature of the track’s Breakfast With The Stars morning.
Ruled out of the Lingfield Derby Trial three weeks ago when the ground was too quick, the ex-Irish-trained colt was slightly delayed in his workout as fog descended over the downs but eventually finished upsides stablemate Ladies Best with Jamie Spencer looking to have a bit up his sleeve.
He added: “I have been pleased with everything he has done and all I have to do now is keep him sound and safe until the first Saturday in June.”
Asked how Curtain Call needed to be ridden, Cumani replied: “Sensibly.”
Peter Chapple-Hyam was in seventh heaven 12 months ago as his Authorized blitzed the field for a spine-tingling win and the Newmarket handler is set to rely on 100-1 chance Bouguereau this time around.
He said: “He pulled a shoe off with three furlongs to run last time in the Italian Derby and finished seventh. The ground was fast that day too, and he wouldn’t let himself down on it. He is in very good form but he has it all to do.”
