Carr Calls Career Curtain Down
Filed Under Curtain Rods | Posted on December 1, 2008
Former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur right back Stephen Carr has retired from professional football at just 32 years of age.
Carr played for Spurs for eleven years between 1993 and 2004 before joining the Magpies’ playing staff for four years.
Carr’s inability to maintain his fitness was cited as the primary reason for then Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan to refuse the Dublin-born defender a new deal and the player has since been without a club.
A plethora of lower league sides were reportedly interested in offering Carr a deal, but he has decided to officially call it a day, according to Sky Sports.
Carr received 44 international caps and made over 300 senior appearances for Newcastle and Tottenham.
In 1999 he won the League Cup with the Lilywhites as Spurs beat Leicester City by one goal to nil in the final.
