Dancers Hawk Tickets To Avoid The Final Curtain

It’s come to this: Sacramento Ballet dancers sold tickets Friday to upcoming “Nutcracker” performances on the corner of 19th and J streets in Sacramento as part of an effort to raise public awareness about their company’s dire financial circumstances.
The announcement comes in the wake of an emergency Wednesday board meeting in which Jill Kaiser Newcom, board president of the financially beleaguered dance company, said that the Sacramento Ballet is relying on ticket sales to this year’s run of “The Nutcracker” to pull it through a financially uncertain time. Ron Cunningham, the ballet’s artistic co-director, said ticket sales make up 80 percent of the ballet’s budget.
