Mathematically, any of the top five teams, Bayelsa United, Kano Pillars, Heartland, Sunshine Stars and Niger Tornadoes can still emerge winners depending on their margin of victory and the results of the contending forces.

It is a photo finish scenario where the clubs must wait for full time to know their fate.

In reality however, the battle is a three horse race that will have current leaders. Bayelsa Untied, second placed Kano Pillars, and Heartland playing to win while praying that the other two either draw or lose their games.

At the wrong end of the table, Prime FC, Insurance of Benin, Jigawa Stars have been confirmed for relegation, while Kwara United, Ocean Boys and Nasarawa United fight on the death to avoid the drop.

Sharks FC of Port Harcourt with their Premier League status are assured for next season as it hosts Insurance in a match that has little at stake. For the homers, the motivation would be to round off a disappointing season with some measure of positivity, while Insurance, being relegated for the first time in their history would want to show some kind of fight.

At the end of the day, both sides would be having an eye on the next season with hopes of getting it right.

The action spots, however, are, the Ilorin Township Stadium where visitors, Bayelsa would try to upset Kwara United to cart home the league trophy. A victory of any kind will be enough to crown them champions, but could spell doom and relegation for the hosts.

Kano Pillars, playing at home to JUTH have the brightest chance of leap-frogging Bayelsa if they win and Bayelsa fumble in Ilorin.

Also, Heartland, at home to Akwa can claim the coveted trophy if they win and Bayelsa and Pillars fail to record victory.

Meanwhile, Tidesports learnt that the Nigerian Football League is determined to present the club trophy to any eventual winner today, wherever the champion emerges.

Other fixtures are Wikki vs Lobi, Prime vs Jigiwa, Enyimba vs Gombe, Zamfara vs Sunshine, Tornadoes vs Rangers and Ocean Boys vs Nasarawa.
