Final curtain for Casselman sound and light show

Accolades are pouring in for the Franco-Ontarian sound and light extravaganza L’echo d’un peuple which has announced that last night’s show here would be the final one after five seasons.
Organizers of the historic pageant confirmed L’echo’s demise early last week, a turn of events they blamed on poor ticket sales to the outdoor venue at Ferme Drouin near Casselman.
Rather than blame rainy weather and the high price of gas for a dramatic drop in attendance this summer, general manager Francois Desormeaux suggested a major factor in the decline was competition from 400th anniversary celebrations in Quebec City.
Denis Pommainville, mayor of La Nation where L’echo is staged, said he holds out hope the attraction can be revived next year under a fresh formula.
