High-class 13 vie for Grand Prix glory

A high-class field of 13 will clash for glory in Longchamp’s Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris on Monday.

The race will feature a fascinating renewal of rivalry between Alessandro Volta and Curtain Call, who finished fourth and fifth respectively in the Irish Derby.

That day, the Aidan O’Brien runner was demoted from third, while Curtain Call was badly hampered by him but did not improve his placing.

“The draw [13] could have been better,” admitted trainer Luca Cumani.

“Hopefully over a mile and a half it will be less important but it would have been nicer to have a more midfield draw.

“He’s come round now since the Curragh. He did a good piece of work on Wednesday and we are happy with him.”

Frankie Dettori rides the Sadler’s Wells-bred for the first time.

Epsom fourth Doctor Fremantle takes his chance for Sir Michael Stoute and Khalid Abdullah, who won the race last year with Zambezi Sun

“He’s in good form, he’s come out of the Derby well,” said the owner’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.

“This has always been his target since then and he’s trained well into it.”
