The nearly completed 600-seat auditorium at Bucks County Technical High School will be finished on time and under budget.

The $6 million project began in 2006 and is expected to be finished this month, said Scott Parks, the school’s administrative director. Crews are set this week to break down a portion of the existing building’s wall near the restaurant services area to connect it with the auditorium, he said.

The auditorium is designed to provide a place for the four grade levels at the comprehensive high school off Wistar Road in Bristol Township to stage assemblies for their respective grades. The classes, made up of roughly 400 students apiece, have to meet for group gatherings in the school’s cafeteria.

The auditorium also will provide a place for the tech school’s theater group to stage productions, Parks said. The group can work with the school’s carpentry class to help build its sets, he said.

In addition, the theater students will be able to work with culinary, baking and hotel/restaurant services to stage dinner theater performances in the high tech auditorium, Parks said. Community groups also will have the opportunity to use it for their events, he said.

The high-tech touches include a scene changer on stage, where specially-trained students will be able to change locations for a production with the flip of a few switches, and acoustic paneling in strategic places throughout the auditorium to improve sound quality, he said.

Other features include a control room, state of the art video projector, dressing rooms, storage areas and office space in small rooms just outside the auditorium.

Once the board agreed a few years back to build it at triple the cost, one of the objectives was to design its exterior with a brick scheme so it doesn’t stand out from the rest of the school that serves the Bensalem, Bristol, Bristol Township, Morrisville, Neshaminy and Pennsbury districts.
