Niagara Symphony’s Holiday Pops will de Scrooge music lovers of all ages.
With special guests from Theatre Beyond Words a theatre troupe from Niagara the classic story of A Christmas Carol will be presented at the Sean O’Sullivan theatre this weekend on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
The performance will incorporate movement, masks, and music from Niagara’s premier orchestra. Along with the theatrical production of A Christmas Carol, the performance will include a dazzling array of holiday classics that includes a medley from Christmas at the Movies.
This visual adaptation is performed through mime like movements, set to the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed onstage by Niagara Symphony. Patterson described all TBW’s theatre productions as “transformative,” explaining that it’s a theatrical device for instructing their audiences in tales of morality and personal growth.
According to Patterson, the element of transformation works especially well within this story because of the transformative power of the spirits of Christmas that changes Scrooge from a miserly Humbug to a joyous soul in the end.
“We create an image and then transform it into a different image before your eyes, like simple theatre magic,” Patterson said. “We hope it sparks the imagination so that leave the theatre transformed in some way themselves.”
Actor Terry Judd will be performing the roles of Marley, the three spirits of Christmas. Harro Maskow is taking on the unmasked role of Scrooge. Brock University drama students, under the direction of drama professor Glenys McQueen Fuentes, will play the Fezziwig’s, Cratchetts and townspeople.
