Curtain Soon To Raise For Hayward Theater Project

Less than three weeks before showtime, the city’s long-awaited Cinema Place complex has leased only a few of its storefronts. But boosters remain optimistic that the silver screens of the development’s centerpiece theater will prove good as gold for revitalizing downtown business.
While city officials and the developer have said that numerous restaurants and retailers have professed interest in moving into one of the eight or nine storefronts in the development, only two businesses are definites: a Wingstop chicken wing restaurant and a ZuckerSuss yogurt lounge.
The cinema and city are working together on security issues, Hayward redevelopment director Maret Bartlett said.
“We have been very diligent about trying to assess how much security the cinema owner will need to provide,” Bartlett said, “and is planning to assign a patrol there, at least initially.”
