Curtain Up On A New Era

DESPITE one or two teething problems staff and pupils at a Burnham acting school have enjoyed a successful start to life in their new home.

Curtain Call School of Performing Arts was left homeless at the end of last term due to structural issues at the Community Centre in Berrow Road.

The budding actors were forced to up sticks and relocate all their classes while trying to keep them as local as possible.

Principal Patricia Ham admitted the last few months have been a ‘real headache’ but the whole school is relieved to be up and running again at various new locations in and around the town.

She said: “Teaching from the community centre was so well suited to us as the rooms were nice and large and the parking facilities were excellent.

“However, the parents and students have all been brilliant during the move, very patient, supportive and helpful.”

Now the staff and pupils have all settled into their new homes at the scout hut, Methodist Church Hall, St John’s Church Hall, King Alfred School, and Rossholme School.

Patricia said the group has had a few hiccups to deal with but things are looking up and the future is certainly bright for the trainee thespians.

“We had to start back to teaching later than projected due to the move and the first week was not without a few setbacks and had a few last minute timetable changes.

“But now all the students are glad to be back and settled into their classes, working for various exams and festivals, but most importantly having fun.”
