Three time AMSOIL Late Model Series champion Steve Laursen dominated the action at the Superior Speedway Friday night. The Cumberland driver served notice on the competition that he will be force to reckon with in a run for his fourth AMSOIL Late Model Series championship. The crafty veteran easily won his ten-lap heat race and used his pole position starting slot to the best advantage dominating the 35-lap feature.

At the green flag for the start of the feature event it was even craftier veteran Tom Nesbitt of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, now competing in his 50th season. He got the jump on Laursen but that advantage didn’t last long. A three-car tangle in the first turn brought action to a halt. The next shot at a good start went the same way. The third time was the charm. This time it was Laursen got the drop on Nesbitt. Laursen completed his sweep of the WISSOTA Late Model action with the win and the early AMSOIL Series point lead.

The final event of the evening was the 12-lap 24-car Pure Stock feature. At the green flag Pat Van Ert shot the gap from the second row and took a lead that he would never give up. One serious incident brought out the red flag when Becky Rivord turned her car sideways in turn four. Rivord was uninjured in the incident. Van Ert drove away from the field to take his first win of the season.
