‘Steel Curtain’ member White dies

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Dwight White, part of the defence that led the team to four Super Bowl championships in the 1970s, has died following surgery at a Pittsburgh hospital. He was 58.

After winning five from five the previous week, the Knights
could not crack it for a win in any grade at the weekend.
The Eels pipped Newcastle 24-23 in extra time in the NRL game at
Parramatta Stadium on Friday, having beaten the Knights 18-10 in

Curt Flood, the All-Star center fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1960’s who became a pioneering figure in the legal attack on baseball’s reserve clause that foreshadowed the era of free agents, died yesterday in Los Angeles. He was 59.
